Nusa Penida & Nusa Lembongan as a Tourist Destination

Nusa Penida & Nusa Lembongan now become Green & Smart Tourism 2025 - 2035

Nusa Penida and Nusa Lembongan, including Ceningan Island, are much different now. Since 2025, the Bali government has been targeting Nusa Penida and the surrounding area as a green and smart tourism island 2025 - 2035. Massive tourist infrastructure, including improving road quality, is starting to be built with the hope of balancing tourism, conservation, and local spirituality. Before this plan, Nusa Penida, Nusa Lembongan, and Nusa Ceningan were already icons of Indonesian tourism with International class.

The classic problems, like the road condition, clean water issue, electricity, and even the Internet, are now better and will be improved over time and as needed. The social life, like a shifting source of livelihood, from the seaweed farmers, fishermen, and all, makes tourism a reference. Here is the government coming to regulate everything so that it does not deviate far from the local wisdom that must be maintained.

Starting in April 2026, to facilitate the government's tourism development program on Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Penida, the government will implement an entrance fee of IDR 25,000 for adults and IDR 15,000 for children aged 4-13.

Nusa Penida

Nusa Penida is known and popular with most wild islands because of its cliffy area and hilly roads, but this island offers a hidden paradise that needs a little more effort to achieve. High cliffs, hidden beaches, and world-class snorkeling spots make it a magnet for tourists.

Nusa Lembongan and Ceningan

The ideal route is to visit Lembongan first, head over to Ceningan, and continue to Nusa Penida before returning to Bali. Lembongan is known as one of the calmest islands, with a tropical atmosphere perfect for families or travelers seeking peace.

  • Mangrove Forest — boat tours and kayaking.
  • Snorkeling — clear water and healthy coral patches.

Seaweed farming and local life

Seaweed farming remains an important part of Lembongan’s culture and economy, though many locals now also work in tourism. The seaweed fields along the shore are still visible and part of the island’s identity.

  • A wide choice of beachfront villas, eco resorts, and bungalows.
  • The vibe is calmer than Nusa Penida, making Lembongan ideal for yoga, relaxation, and slow travel.

Sustainability and Environmental Challenges

Tourism growth brings real challenges that are being addressed, but still need attention:

  • The water supply is limited in several villages.
  • Pressure on marine ecosystems from diving, snorkeling, and boat traffic.
  • Waste management and plastic pollution remain problems.
  • Uneven infrastructure between villages affects the local quality of life.

Local authorities and community groups are working on conservation programs, water projects, and waste reduction, but visitors should travel responsibly and support local initiatives.

Why Visit

  • Dramatic cliffs and secluded beaches not found on mainland Bali.
  • World-class snorkeling and diving, including manta ray encounters.
  • Strong local culture and traditional ceremonies are still practiced.
  • A growing range of accommodations and easier transport links.
  • Great for adventure, photography, and nature experiences.

Conclusion

Nusa Penida, Nusa Lembongan, and Ceningan offer a mix of raw natural beauty and growing visitor services. The islands are more accessible and better equipped than before, but sustainability remains a priority. Travelers who respect local customs and the environment will find unforgettable landscapes, rich marine life, and warm local hospitality.
